The Valley of the Temples is an archaeological park encompassing the monumental heart of ancient Akragas, with a remarkable series of well-preserved Doric temples from the Hellenic period.
A defining cultural landmark of Agrigento, the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. It is widely regarded as a symbol of the city and one of Sicily’s principal heritage destinations.
Since 2000, the area has been managed as an archaeological park of the Sicilian Region. Extending across 1,300 hectares, it is the largest archaeological park in Europe and the Mediterranean.
The Valley of the Temples forms the monumental core of a place where the scale of the landscape and the surviving architecture offer a direct encounter with ancient Akragas.
