La Vuccirìa is an ancient market and neighbourhood in Palermo’s central Castellammare quarter, a maze of pedestrian alleys and small piazzas centred on Piazza Garraffello and Piazza Caracciolo. La Vuccirìa is an ancient market and neighbourhood in the Castellammare quarter of central Palermo, where shops and tables offer produce, foodstuffs and other goods amid a dense network of pedestrian alleys and small piazzas.

The area is generally bounded by the church and piazza of San Domenico to the north, Via Roma to the west and Via Vittorio Emanuele to the south. Within it are Piazza Garraffello and Piazza Caracciolo, each contributing to the market’s character as an open-air urban setting.

Its weathered buildings and graffiti are part of the scene, as are the hawkers calling out their wares, the crowded lanes and the numerous food and drink establishments. Some remain open late, giving the market a lively, informal atmosphere well into the evening.

La Vuccirìa is free to visit and no booking is required. It is located at Piazza Vicerè Caracciolo, 90133 Palermo, and forms one of several open-air markets in the city, alongside Capo, Ballarò, Borgo Vecchio and Piazza Peranni.
