Set in a dramatic rocky cove just outside Scopello, the Tonnara di Scopello is a historic tuna fishery and seaside hamlet on Sicily’s north-western coast. Its limestone faraglioni rise from clear turquoise water, creating one of the island’s most recognisable coastal landscapes. The site is approximately a 40- to 50-minute drive from Palermo Airport.

The tonnara’s history dates back to the 13th century, while its principal structures were built during the 15th and 16th centuries by noble families and later managed by influential industrial dynasties such as the Florios. Today, the complex has been transformed into an open-air museum preserving its original fishing boats, production warehouses and traditional maritime tools used in tuna processing.

Former fishermen’s dwellings have been converted into rustic, minimalist historic apartments, offering the opportunity to stay within the atmospheric coastal settlement. The tonnara also serves as an exclusive setting for weddings and other events, with the cove and faraglioni providing a naturally striking backdrop.

Day visitors can access the property and swimming area via paid entry passes. The Tonnara di Scopello is in the municipality of Scopello, at Largo Tonnara, in the province of Trapani.
