In the heart of Palermo, the Regional Archaeological Museum Antonio Salinas houses one of Italy’s most important archaeological collections. Named after the renowned archaeologist Antonino Salinas, it traces Sicily’s history through artefacts dating from prehistory to the Middle Ages.
Its Greek collections are among the highlights, notably the metopes from the Temple of Selinunte. These exceptional reliefs offer a rare and remarkable example of Doric sculpture.
The museum also presents important evidence of Phoenician and Punic civilisation, including jewellery, ceramics and coins. Together, these objects illuminate the diverse cultures that have shaped Sicily over the centuries.
Following its renovation, the museum combines its collections with multimedia installations, creating an interactive and immersive way to engage with the artefacts. Booking is not required.
