Palazzo Abatellis is a majestic late-fifteenth-century residence in Palermo’s Kalsa quarter, built in the Gothic-Catalan style. Its construction was commissioned by Francesco Patella, known as Abatellis, who served as port master of the kingdom and praetor of the city.
The project was entrusted to the architect Matteo Carnalivari, whose work gives the building its distinctive architectural character. The palace remains one of the notable landmarks of this historic part of Palermo.
Today, Palazzo Abatellis houses the Galleria Regionale della Sicilia, the region’s gallery of art. A visit therefore combines the atmosphere of a historic residence with the opportunity to explore Sicily’s artistic heritage.
Palazzo Abatellis is at Via Alloro, 4, in Palermo. Admission is free, and booking is not required.
