Neapolis Archaeological Park is one of Sicily’s most extraordinary ancient sites, bearing witness to Syracuse’s power, wealth and cultural importance in the Mediterranean.
Its Greek Theatre, carved directly into the rock of Temenite Hill, is among the largest and best-preserved theatres in the world. The scale of the setting is striking, while the surviving stonework gives a vivid sense of the theatre’s enduring place in the city.
The theatre remains in use today for shows, tragedies and classical performances during the theatre season, bringing the ancient venue into a living cultural context.
The park is in Siracusa, on Via Luigi Bernabò Brea. Admission is free, and advance booking is not required.
