The Fountain of Arethusa is a natural spring on Ortygia, in the historic centre of Siracusa. Known as the Arethusa Spring, it is one of the island’s most evocative places to pause while exploring the city.
Surrounded by the atmosphere of Ortygia, the spring has long been associated with legends. Whatever version of the story one prefers, the setting retains a distinctly magical character.
It is especially appealing at the gentler hours of the day, when a walk through the historic centre can lead naturally to a fairy-tale sunset beside the water. The fountain offers a quiet, romantic interlude within the city.
The Arethusa Spring is at Largo Aretusa and can be visited free of charge, without booking.
